Chesterfield, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - It's the final marking period of the academic year for Chesterfield Schools, but the district says it has finally filled all of its bus driver vacancies. The district began the year 100 drivers down.
Superintendent Merv Daugherty says they are no longer dealing with "double back" routes and buses are on time. In August, Daughtery asked parents to drive kids to help with the shortage. The request then led to backups around schools at drop-off and pick-up times.
The district and Chesterfield County agreed to raise pay and bonuses for drivers to encourage more people to apply.
