Chesterfield County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Chesterfield County has revealed the details of their new proposed budget, to be presented to the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday.
The proposed features for the new budget include a raise in county government's minimum wage to $16, and a bump in funding for Chesterfield County Public Schools. Chesterfield Schools, according to Deputy County Administrator Matt Harris, have been dealing with a 16 million dollar "gap" in funding since mid-January. The proposed budget would cover half of that, with hopes that the remaining half will come from the state once a statewide budget is passed.
The new budget also includes raises for teachers, first responders, and a potential merit-based raise for other county employees. It also includes funding for an extension to Powhite Parkway, hires 36 new firefighters, and gives certain tax breaks to local small businesses.
The proposed budget will be presented to the board of supervisors on March 8, followed by a string of community meetings to hear public comment.
