Chesterfield, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A 27-year-old man is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted a woman in Chesterfield on July 13. Matthew Kirkland of Chesterfield allegedly met the victim through an online platform and assaulted her at a location in Chesterfield County.
On Wednesday, police arrested Kirkland and charged him with rape, two counts of object sexual penetration, abduction, attempted strangulation, aggravated sexual battery and forcible sodomy. He is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
Police believe Kirkland may have additional victims. Anyone who believes they may have been sexually assaulted by Kirkland is urged to reach out to police.
"We just want to give those victims a chance to come forward and to let them know that we'll do our best to investigate everything we can and prosecute where we can prosecute," says Lieutenant John Payne, Chesterfield County Police, "And we'll do our best to make them feel as comfortable as possible during those trying times."
