Chesterfield County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A Chesterfield County probationary police officer has been charged with filing a false police report in connection to an off-duty vehicle crash.

The crash occurred in Chesterfield County, and the officer was arrested and charged earlier this week. In a statement, police said the false report was initially discovered by a detective who was doing an investigation on the report.

“The false police report was discovered internally by a Chesterfield detective who was doing follow up investigation on the report,” the spokesperson said. “The detective notified his chain of command and appropriate investigations were commenced by the department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau and Internal Affairs Division.”

The PPO officer’s involvement in the crash has not yet been released by police. He was terminated on Oct. 1.

“We are disappointed by this employee’s actions which do not reflect the values of our organization or those of the community we serve,” the spokesperson said. “At the same time, we are proud that every employee involved in this investigative process did what they needed to do and what was right. We remain committed to openly addressing breaches of the public trust and holding ourselves accountable.”
