Chesterfield, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Chesterfield's School Board voted late Tuesday evening to mandate masks for the start of the upcoming school year. Chesterfield students return to class August 23rd. The vote came after numerous public comment, both for and against.
The meeting in Chesterfield was generally calm, in comparison to Hanover, where the battle over masks became contensious. Hanover ended up, in a split vote, making masks optional to begin the school year. The vote came despite legal guidance that suggests state law requires masks be mandated at this time. Most districts cited that advice in voting for mandates within the last week.
Earlier in the evening, Dinwiddie voted to mandate masks as well.
