Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A former Short Pump Middle School gym teacher has been acquitted of sexual assault charges. Dean Lakey faced five counts, including indecent liberties. This was his second trial; his first trial ended in a mistrial.
The alleged assaults dated to 2017, but the victim did not come forward until much later. Lakey was arrested in 2021. His defense argued he was not at the school building at the times the assaults allegedly occurred.
The first trial took place in June.
