Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - This weekend marked two years since a massive fire destroyed the historic William Fox Elementary School in Richmond. Many in the community marked the anniversary while striking a positive tone as the school is being rebuilt.

Shannon Heady, a former William Fox Elementary parent, said she’s been impressed with how smoothly reconstruction has been going.

“I’ve been so impressed, you know, [with] Richmond Public Schools with all the other things that were going on and dealing with, has really had such a commitment to the building process,” Heady told our partners at 8News.

The fire that devastated Fox Elementary School happened on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022. The building was left heavily damaged and without a roof. An investigation later found that the school did not have sprinklers installed and that the fire alarm panel – which was in need of repairs – had failed.

Since then, Fox students have been taking classes at the former Clark Springs Elementary School. School leaders hope Fox will reopen in the Fall of 2025.
