Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - There appears to be continuing confusion over whether school districts are going to be required to mandate masks this school year. Governor Ralph Northam (D) believes state law requires it while the one of the law's sponsors, Senator Siobhan Dunnavant (R-Henrico) doesn't think so.

Dunnavant says the law's primary focus is requiring schools to reopen. She says it just advises schools to follow CDC guidance to the maximum extent possible. Dunnavant suggets the Governor is trying to have a mandate without actually issuing one himself.

Dunnavant represents a locality, Henrico, that has so far chosen to make masks optional this year.
