Washington, D.C. (Newsradiowrva.com) - With the U.S. House of Representatives set to vote on the debt ceiling deal Wednesday, Congressman Bob Good (R-5) tells WRVA he's a "no" vote. The Conservative Good also says he's encouraging other Republicans to vote no.
Good claims an extension makes default more likely, because it allows spending to continue. The agreement avoids a debt default on June 5th (which Good suggests isn't truly the case), and contains some limits on spending. Analysts have said failure to extend the ceiling would lead to some federal workers not getting paid, some federal aid not being paid out, and it would create havoc in financial markets.
Good would not say that he would back efforts against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) over the agreement. However, he is highly critical of the Speaker for making the deal with a Republican majority, and Good says a vote for it is owning the current spending.
