Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A Covid-19 drug tested at UVA Health has now become the second drug fully approved by the FDA to hospitalized Covid-19 patients. Baricitinib was tested at UVA in 2020 and 2021.
The drug is meant for the most severe and hospitalized Covid-19 patients. It works by targeting inflammation. The patients most likely to receive it include those needing additional oxygen, or are on ventilators.
Approximately 40 patients at UVA Health helped with the testing.
