Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - State and Federal Emergency officials are on hand in Buchanan County in Southwest Virginia doing an assessment of the flood damage that occurred earlier this month.
Doing the assessment are officials from the State Department of Emergency Management, Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administration. The flash flooding event led to widespread county damage and roads that were impassible. In addition, vital communications lines were down when cell and landline service was halted. Many buildings were damaged as well.
That alone doesn't qualify for a presidential disaster declaration and federal money. An assessment such as the one that's going on right now is required. It started Wednesday and runs through Friday.
