Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Democrats have finally expanded their State Senate majority to 22-18, more than a week after Aaron Rouse (D-Virginia Beach) won the election to replace now-Congresswoman Jen Kiggans. Rouse was sworn into office Wednesday afternoon.
Rouse's vote will now likely end any chance at any abortion restrictions passing the General Assembly this session. At 21-19, Senator Joe Morrissey (D-Petersburg) was considered a potential flip vote. Morrissey has missed multiple floor session this week as controversy surrounds his personal life.
The entire State Senate is up for election in November.
