Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - House Democrats have finally selected a new Minority Leader. Delegate Don Scott (D-Portsmouth), the force behind the ouster of former House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn (D-Fairfax), will take over the leadership position.
Scott was elected prior to the General Assembly voting to approve the two year budget. The vote came 30 days before the shutdown deadline. Some lawmakers complained about the secrecy surrounding the negotiations and the bill, while others were unhappy it did not include Governor Glenn Youngkin's (R) gas tax suspension.
Scott is an ally of Senate President Pro Tem Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth), and has served as her attorney. Both are vocal opponents of Youngkin.
