Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - The Richmond/Henrico Health District says with the recent rise in COVID cases in the Richmond area, it's not yet time to be overly concerned. As compared to previous surges like Delta, we're in a much better situation with better resources. For example, there's better at-home testing, boosters and younger people being eligible for boosters and even initial shots for the very young coming soon.

Richmond/Henrico Health District Nurse Manager Amy Popovich says these improved resources are only as good as them being utilized by the general public. The rise in cases, however, does mean that you can get sick even though you are fully vaccinated and boosted. If you do, or if you are a close contact, follow the CDC recommendations for masking and isolation.

As of last week's numbers, most of the immediate Richmond area was in medium community transmission except for the city of Richmond. Popovich says that these numbers are updated every Thursday. Last week, the numbers showed the city teetering at the very high-end of the low transmission rate. She fully expects Richmond to be in medium transmission category.
