Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- the DMV's annual "Local Heroes" campaign is coming to Richmond this year. The campaign talks to local first responders about why seatbelts are important, and their experience with the consequences of people not wearing their seatbelts.
375 people not wearing seatbelts were killed on Virginia roadways in 2022, and proper seatbelt use reduces the risk of death in a crash by nearly 50%. In Richmond alone, 59% of people who died in crashes in belted vehicles weren't wearing their seatbelts.
The campaign will run through August 31 and will focus on the greater Richmond area.
