Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Dominion Energy says new rates went into effect July 1, which should have the impact of lowering the average bill $14. The move still needs State Corporation Commission approval, but Dominion often makes rate changes ahead of approval and then adjusts based on the SCC's decision.
Dominion Spokesman Craig Carper says the power company is eliminating some "riders" as well as spreading out fuel costs. Both had a seven dollar impact, leading the the $14 reduction. Carper also says they just filed their base rate request, which they plan to hold steady.
Dominion says its rates are 20% below the national average.
