Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - AAA and the Richmond Ambulance Authority are urging families traveling this Thanksgiving to double-check their children's car seats. The most common mistakes people make when installing children's car seats, they say, are installing them too loosely and incorrectly adjusting the harness. Adjusting these components correctly and making sure the seat itself is up to date are the biggest factors in keeping young passengers safe.
According to AAA, car crashes are the leading cause of death in children, and the latest research shows that 46% of car seats are misused. The CDC, however, found that kids correctly buckled into car seats were 71% to 82% less likely to be injured during an accident compared to those wearing only seat belts.
