Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The State Elections Department has issued its report on the 2021 Election, with Commissioner Christopher Piper calling it well-run. He says minor issues that did pop-up were quickly dealt with, and that there were record levels of participation.

Piper personally (as in not an official position of the Commonwealth) believe the turnout is due to more people believing their vote can make a difference. He also credits new voting laws that expand access to the ballot, such as no-excuse absentee voting, as drivers of the increased participation.

Piper did say they continue to have to battle mis- and dis-information about the security of elections. The department did that this year through a media campaign that stressed that the people running the elections are people's friends and neighbors.
