Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia DMV and the Schneider trucking company have announced a new collaboration to test anti-drunk driving technology. Schneider plans to test the technology, which uses breath sensors, in eight of its trucks in 2022.
The sensors are already being tested in James River Transportation vehicles, but this will expose them to more miles and new environments. The sensor detect alcohol levels, and if the driver has a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, the vehicle will not move.
DMV Commissioner Rick Holcomb says the technology, if used widely, could save more than 9,000 lives a year.
