Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - The first of eleven defendants who have been charged in the hazing death of Adam Oakes at VCU enters a plea in court Tuesday morning.
23-Year-Old Andrew White pled guilty to two misdemeanors: Hazing and serving alcohol to a minor in connection to the February incident that killed Oakes. The cause of death was alcohol poisoning as Oakes was pledging to be a member of the Delta Chi fraternity, which has now ceased operations at VCU.
White is the first of the group arrested to plead guilty in the case. Ten other former Delta Chi members have been charged in the incident. Both the hazing and serving alcohol to a minor are class one misdemeanors and are punishable by up to a year in prison and a $2500 fine.
