Arlington, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The first hearing in one of four lawsuits surrounding Governor Glenn Youngkin's (R) executive order requiring school mask opt-out has ended in Arlington without a decision. The judge hearing the lawsuit said he will take the arguments under advisement.

Seven school districts, including Richmond, are suing to keep their mask mandates. They argue the executive order creating an opt-out usurps their constitutional authority, as well as violates state law. The state law in question is the one that also requires five-day a week in person schooling.

There are other lawsuits against the mask executive order. A group of Chesapeake parents is suing in the Supreme Court of Virginia to have the order declared void. A group of parents of disabled children is also suing in federal court. Meanwhile, a few Loudoun County parents are suing their district because the schools there did not provide for a mask opt-out.
