Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A Ford Motor Company spokeswoman confirms to Newsradio WRVA that the motor company had not selected Pittsylvania County as the site of its battery plant prior to Governor Glenn Youngkin rejecting the idea. The Richmond Times-Dispatch had reported sources saying the site had been zeroed in on, before Ford then told the paper that was not the case.

Youngkin ended the pursuit of the project because of Ford's partnership on it with a Chinese company. The plant could have meant 2,500 jobs for an area of Virginia that has been struggling economically. Youngkin has been rcently focused on limiting alleged Chinese Government influence in Virginia's economy.

Democrats have been highly critical of the decision, and continued to criticize it again Thursday on the House of Delegates floor. However, Delegate Terry Kilgore (R-Gate City) countered, saying the jobs were not a sure thing, and the plant could have resulted in tying up Virginia's only megasite in limbo for years while federal tax workarounds were dealt with.
