
Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Thomas J. Bliley Jr., longtime Congressman and former Richmond Mayor, died Thursday at his residence in Western Henrico. He was 91.
Bliley was elected to Richmond City Council in 1968 and served as Mayor of Richmond from 1970 through 1977. He was first elected to Congress in 1980.
"Virginia mourns the passing of Thomas J. Bliley Jr," Gov. Glenn Youngkin said in a statement. "During his time as Richmond mayor and as a member of Congress, he embodied the Spirit of Virginia through his service to our Commonwealth."
