Petersburg, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Petersburg High School will have a significant police presence on Friday as a result of an incident that took place Thursday night.
On Thursday, Nov. 21, Petersburg Police were looking into reports of a stolen vehicle and potentially armed suspects.
Petersburg High School staff alerted police that several students were suspected of stealing a car and possessing weapons outside the campus.
In a Facebook post, school district officials gave details of a police chase that resulted in a brief lockdown at Cool Spring Elementary School.
“It was later discovered that the stolen vehicle was involved in a police chase near Cool Spring Elementary School, prompting the school to be placed on lockdown as a precaution,” district officials said.
Police have since apprehended four individuals, and the area was deemed safe by 9:30 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
Petersburg High will have an increased police presence on Friday as a result of Thursday’s events. Officials say this is “to protect the well-being of everyone in our school community.”
