The school division said the decision was based on information it received late last night, and that the move was taken out of “an abundance of caution.”

Just before 10 a.m. on Friday, the school system provided an update in which it said the abrupt decision to close schools was due to a missing juvenile who trespassed on school grounds.

“We believe there are potential safety and security concerns with this individual’s mental state," Fredericksburg Police shared just before 10 a.m. "In an abundance of caution, Fredericksburg City Public Schools were closed Friday, March 21."

Safar Fasihullah, 16, who is missing out of Fairfax County, was seen trespassing at James Monroe High School on Wednesday, police said. The School Resource Officer reportedly approached the juvenile, who then fled the school grounds. Officials could not find him after a search of the area.

Fasihullah is wanted for trespassing on school property. If you have any information on Fasihullah's whereabouts, contact the Fredericksburg Police Department by calling 540-373-3122.
