Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Gas prices in Virginia have fallen 32% since last year, according to AAA. One year ago today, gas prices in the Commonwealth hit an all-time record high of $4.86 per gallon. Today, the average price is $3.32 per gallon.

AAA says a few factors could push prices higher this summer. Oil platforms and refining operations can be affected by hurricanes, specifically those that move into the Gulf of Mexico. Geopolitical events can also raise prices, as seen last year with the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Currently, however, low prices at the pump are likely to lead to a higher volume of summer roadtrips than we've seen in years. AAA says people watching their wallet can save on gas by getting routine car maintenance, keeping tires properly inflated, avoiding idling, and consolidating trips.
