Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Virginia's 74th Governor has officially taken office. Glenn Youngkin took the oath of office early Saturday afternoon, becoming Virginia first Republican Governor since 2010.
In his inaugural address, Youngkin promised to be a Governor for all Virginians. However, he also promised to roll back recent Democratic initiatives, such as the recent gas tax increase for transportation, and he stressed increased parental control over schools, a flashpoint issue in the campaign.
Youngkin also is signing 11 executive orders and actions, text of which has not been provided yet. However, the Youngkin Administration says they end the use of Critical Race Theory, deal with masks in school, and "investigate wrongdoing in Loudoun County."
In comments prior to the ceremony, former Governor Ralph Northam (D) wished Youngkin well in his new office.
