Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - While pharmacies have had the bivalent boosters for a couple of weeks now, the Richmond/Henrico Health District had their first day with the boosters on Wednesday.
Dr. Elaine Perry, the director at the Health District, says that they were at full capacity for those people wanting to get a dose. Perry says they didn't have to turn away any walk-ins and would recommend people schedule an appointment to make sure that doesn't happen.
Perry says that for those where it's been at least two months since your last booster, they would recommend getting the bivalent booster. She says it's generally a good idea as there could be another spike in COVID cases in the fall and winter.
As far as monkeypox cases go in the Richmond area and throughout the state, Perry says that those cases tend to be trending downward. Demand for monkeypox vaccines have also waned.
