Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin commented publicly on the death of Irvo Otieno for one of the first times since the Dinwiddie Commonwealth Attorney announced her intentions to publicly release the security footage of the incident.

Youngkin said that, since Otieno's death is an ongoing investigation, he is waiting to see what that investigation yields. He said, however, that he intends to watch the tape when it is released.

Youngkin discussed the incident as proof for the need of an overhaul in Virginia's mental health care system. In December of last year, the Governor introduced the "Right Help, Right Now” plan, a $230 million allotment of funds towards mobile mental health response units, non-hospital crisis centers, and other accommodations designed to address mental health crises in Virginia. The plan, he says, has received bipartisan support.
