Hanover, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Hanover County Schools will remain not in compliance with state law requiring new transgender policies. The School Board, declining to pass the policies after a special public comment session last week, and an hour of public comment Tuesday night.

Most, but not all, speakers Tuesday asked the board not to approve the policies. The speakers said the bathrooms and locker rooms are already unsafe, and opening them to transgender students could lead to greater bullying and violence. A few also mentioned a recent rape case in Loudon as an example of why the policies should not be passed, although in court, it was discovered that case was a dating violence case and not a predator rape. Loudoun also did not have these policies in place when the attack occurred.

School Board members said they wanted to come up with a policy that fit Hanover, and the safety of "all" students. Most school districts in Virginia have passed these policies.
