Hanover County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hanover County School Board on Tuesday voted 6 to 1 in favor of revising its cell phone policy. The Board’s decision enforces a complete ban on cell phones, headphones, and earbuds throughout the school day, including during lunches and class changes.

The vote took place just hours after Governor Youngkin issued an executive order directing the Virginia Department of Education to draft policies that limit or ban cell phones in schools across the state.

Under the revised policy, students caught with a cell phone for the first time will receive a warning or a conference with school administration. The second offense will result in a loss of privileges, and the third will be a day of in-school suspension.
