Hanover County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hanover County Sheriff's Office has released more information on a train accident that killed a teenager last Wednesday.
Deputies now say 15-year-old Chris Asare-Budu, who died at the scene, was walking towards the center of the tracks, toward the train. The Sheriff's Office says the CSX engineer who was operating the train saw Asare-Budu, used the horn and applied the brake -- however, the teen was wearing earbuds in both of his ears and was looking at his phone up until the moment he was hit.
The accident took place on November 29, just before 8 a.m. on the tracks near the Cool Springs West subdivision.
Asare-Budu, who was a student at Atlee High School, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say there is no evidence to support that this accident was in any way deliberate. An investigation is ongoing.
