Hanover, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hanover School Board is set to vote tonight on the school district's controversial proposed transgender bathroom policy. The policy was supposed to have been approved over a year ago. It follows a special public hearing two weeks ago.

The policy is unlike most in Virginia in that it requires students wanting to use the bathroom conforming to their gender identity to basically apply to the school board. Opponents say it is cruel. Some supporters want to see the opportunity and the policy only limited to high school students.

State law requires school districts have a policy in place to accommodate transgender students.
