Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com)- Leaders at the Richmond City Health District joined Mayor Levar Stoney for his weekly briefing to give an update on where we stand after two years of battling COVID-19. Amy Popovich, nurse manager of RCHD, said that on Monday the city only say eight new COVID cases and the percent positive for the city is 5 percent.
Even with 62 percent of the city vaccinated and numbers low, Melissa Viray, the director of the RCHD, said that the pandemic is not yet over. Viray introduced new metrics the CDC made to help keep the public up to date and safe. The metric categorizes cities at 3 levels: low, medium and high.
"Richmond is in the low area, meaning we should still be concerned with COVID, just less afraid of it," Viray said.
After roughly 44,000 positive cases and over 400 deaths in the city, the mayor, Popovich and Viray thanked Richmonders for all they'be done to make the pandemic bearable. This included wearing masks, staying home or being an essential worker, and, of course, getting vaccinated.
