Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Heavy rains and gusty winds are the main threat from a system that is expected through our area overnight tonight into tomorrow morning.
NBC12 meteorologist Sophia Armata says that heavy rains and gusty winds are a concern as you get closer to the Chesapeake Bay as counties in that area are under a coast flood advisory or warning. Heavy rains, possibly up to 2 inches are expected west of Richmond, toward Charlottesville.
As for the Richmond area, she says that we can expect about an inch of rain in general. There is not a big concern for tornadoes and Sophia says that wind gusts in the Richmond area could be between 20 and 30 miles an hour overnight. That's not as bad as what's expected near the Bay with wind gusts possibly hitting 60 miles an hour.
The heavy rain concerns will last until early afternoon Friday. We could see some scattered showers after that but, for the most part, it clears up rather quickly. The weather improves for Saturday and looks really good for Halloween.
