Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Henrico County announced today that an agreement has been reached for the development of the 17,000-seat GreenCity arena. GreenCity Partners has entered into an agreement with ASM Global, a major venue management company, to build the 2.3 billion dollar complex.
The development, according to GreenCity Partners principal Michael Hallmark, will be state-of-the-art in the truest sense of the world, and that one of the top priorities in its construction is its environmental sustainability. The arena is planned to be "the greenest arena in America," including net-zero energy use and sustainable waste management strategies. The complex is to be run entirely off of renewable energy, and will make use of tactics such as rain capture to minimize its environmental impact.
Henrico County and the GreenCity Partners hope the arena will, upon its completion in 2026, become a prime space for concerts, sports, and other touring entertainment. The complex, besides the arena, is designed to include 2 million square feet of office space, 280,000 square feet of retail space, 2,400 housing units, two hotels, and a system of parks and trails. The project is entirely privately funded and should have no impact on Henrico County taxpayers.
