Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Henrico County has announced a new partnership with the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) set to provide 90,000 homes with free, 95 gallon recycling bins.

The bins, dubbed "super cans," can hold about 4 times as much as the handheld bins Henrico has been providing. The super cans will be delivered to Henrico homes over a 6 week period beginning May 15. Henrico County predicts that the additional space will not only increase recycling, but their design will increase collection efficiency and reduce diesel fuel use in waste management trucks. The new super cans will cost the county $5.7 million, $1.4 million of which is being provided by a grant from the nonprofit The Recycling Partnership.

This news comes on the heels of Chesterfield County's announcement that they will no longer be providing curbside recycling services to their residents. Henrico, however, emphasized this recycling initiative as just one piece of a years-long broader environmental push.
