Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - In the aftermath of multiple disruptions this year at the Richmond water treatment plan, leaders in Henrico and Hanover are set to meet to discuss the future of the water supply in their counties.
A joint meeting is scheduled to take place Wednesday, June 11 at the Henrico Sports and Events Center. The discussion will center around the future of the water supply in the coming years and decades.
Leaders from both counties say there has been improvement at Richmond’s water treatment plant, but preventing future problems will require regional collaboration. The meeting agenda includes a look at how each county’s water systems operate, upcoming infrastructure projects, and potential opportunities to collaborate more closely.
Much of the water delivered to residents in eastern Henrico and parts of Hanover is currently supplied by the City of Richmond. But this year, issues have cropped up.
In January, a power outage at the plant led to a water outage and boil water advisory. In April, there was an overfeed of fluoride into the system that elevated fluoride levels in Henrico and Hanover. Then in May, sediment clogged filters at the facility, causing low water pressure in the counties.
