Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- VDOT and the Federal Highway Administration have now signed off on plans to improve the Short Pump interchange between Broad Street and Interstate 64, as well as the addition of a new I-64 interchange at North Gayton.
These plans, according to Henrico Board of Supervisors member Tommy Brannon, was a coordinated effort between local, state, and federal groups. The project now moves on to an environmental impact study, according to Terrell Hughes, head of Henrico County Public Works. After that study is complete, construction will begin.
Work will begin on constructing the North Gayton interchange first, and will begin on the Broad Street interchange only after North Gayton is complete. Hughes said that the north Gayton interchange likely won't be complete until 2029 at the earliest.
