Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Henrico Police say one of their officers has died following a crash at Chamberlayne Avenue and Wilkinson Road Wednesday night. A second officer and a man in custody remain in critical condition.
Police say Officer Trey Sutton, 24, was killed in a crash that occurred when a truck drove into the intersection and hit their vehicle. Police are still investigating the crash.
Sutton had just graduated the police academy in February. He was in field training.
Henrico Police Chief Eric English says that Sutton was hired by Henrico Police in June of 2021 and was a tremendous person who was excited to wear the badge.
English says that the other officer is in critical but stable condition. The suspect they were transporting in the police cruiser when the accident happened is also in critical condition.
There's been no word on how the crash happened or any charges filed at this point
