Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Henrico County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday to discuss the results of two investigations regarding the city’s response to January’s water outage.

The board met for two hours on Tuesday, Feb. 11 to discuss a pair of investigations by independent consultants – one led by AquaLaw and another by WRA (Whitman, Requardt & Associates) – which both sought to evaluate the county’s response to the water crisis, with a focus on exploring ways to prevent future service disruption.

In early January, the county issued a boil water advisory after thousands of residents experienced water issues tied to a loss of power at Richmond’s water treatment facility.

The results of the investigation by AquaLaw brought up concerns including communication delays from Richmond to Henrico, as well as “false hopes” as to when water would be up and running again.

AquaLaw also had several positive comments to share, including the swift response of Henrico and their ability to offer support to the City of Richmond.

WRA’s report outlined several water system upgrades, both for the short and long-term, that will enable Henrico to rely on its own supply more. WRA provided five short-term, mid-term and long-term options ranging from $117 million to $1.2 billion in cost that would increase the area’s water supply.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
