Henrico Police Say Standoff Suspect Was With Force 28 Years

Henrico, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Henrico Police confirm the duties of the former Henrico Police employee that was the subject of a multi-hour standoff on Saturday.

The confirmation from Henrico Police says that Richard Crowder was hired by the department in October of 1986. He retired in November of 2014. His last duties with Henrico Police was as an officer with K-9 unit.

Henrico Police say Crowder killed his wife, 53 year old Diane Crowder and his 35 year old step-daughter Carrie Szaksz of Mechanicsville. This happened in Crowder's east end home on Phillips Woods Drive. Police heard shots coming from inside the house around 9:30 Saturday morning. Crowder did not come out of the house until 6:30 that evening. The investigation is ongoing.
