Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Henrico Schools Superintendent Amy Cashwell is recommending to the county school board that the district use weapons scanners at all schools. She is also recommending additional security personnel be hired. Cashwell says the effort could be paid for out of current fiscal year funds.

The superintendent says the effort would begin at the high school, and expand as the personnel allow. She says the scanners they are recommending are faster and less intrusive than wands or metal scanners. Cashwell says a survey showed families overwhelmingly supported the scanners as well.

Weapons have been found at a number of Henrico schools this year. Last week, a gun was found a Longdale Elementary in Glen Allen. A student was also stabbed earlier this year at Brookland Middle.
