Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Henrico County officials are warning residents not to let anyone into their home amid reports of suspicious individuals posing as county employees.

In a social media post, the county said it has received reports of people posting as Public Utilities or other agency employees in an effort to get into the person’s house.

“In many instances, these individuals claim they need to change a water or utilities meter,” officials said. “In Henrico, these meters are usually located outside homes.”

The county says it will “very rarely” need to enter a resident’s home.

“With the exception of law enforcement, county employees very rarely have a need to enter a resident’s home,” officials said. “If you are not expecting a visit from a Henrico employee, do not allow anyone posing as such to enter your home.”

The county asks that if this happens to you, call 911 for emergencies or 804-501-5000 for non-emergencies. You can also call the Department of Public Utilities at 804-501-4275 if you would like to verify a DPU employee.
