Hopewell, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Hopewell Superintendent Melody Hackney says there will be some changes coming to Hopewell Schools in January, following news of a student bringing a gun to Hopewell High School on Tuesday. Hackney, in a facebook post, says their student ID badge program will be in force after Winter Break, and they are in the process of hiring additional temporary school safety officers for the secondary schools for January.
Hackney is also inviting people to attend a Community Town Hall on January 13th. She says it will discuss school safety. The student who brought the gun was unable to bring it into school, according to Hackney's post, and was caught when he attempted to retrieve it from a jacket.
Hopewell returns from Winter Break on January 10th, a week later than most schools, because they are on a de facto year-around calendar.
