Hopewell, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hopewell school system and the town of Hopewell are mourning the death of a 15-year-old student after he experienced a medical event at football practice.
According to a press release from Hopewell City Public Schools, the unidentified student was at football practice on Monday, Aug. 5 when they experienced a “medical situation.” As a result, the student died.
“Please hold the family and our community in your thoughts and prayers,” the district said in the release. “We will be providing grief support for our students tomorrow and more information will be provided to our families soon.”
There has been an outpouring of support from the RVA high school football community and others in the metro. Grief counselors are being made available to students today.
