Now Head to Senate

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The House of Delegates has approved two of Governor Glenn Youngkin's (R) tax proposals, sending them to the Democratically-controlled State Senate. The proposals would double the standard deduction in Virginia and repeal the recent gas tax increase for a year.

House Democrats opposed both bills. Delegate Cia Price (D-Newport News) argued the standard deduction change would not provide relief to the poor. She had proposed making the earned income tax credit refundable but that idea was defeated.

On the gas tax, Democrats argued that it would not impact the price at the pump, and would take money away from road projects.
