Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A House Privileges and Elections sub-committee Wednesday morning rejected a bill that would have banned using campaign contributions for personal use. The bill had unanimously passed the State Senate.

Senator Jennifer Boysko (D-Fairfax) called Virginia an outlier for allowing such spending, and said it would restore some trust in lawmakers. But Delegate Wren Williams (R-Franklin) pointed out Democrats did not reform campaign finance when they controlled the General Assembly and the Governor's Mansion a few years ago.

The same sub-committee had previously killed a Republican version of the same bill from a delegate.
