Fredericksburg, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The 10 mile express lane extension on I-95 in Fredericksburg opens tonight. The lanes will be southbound until midnight, and then switch northbound, reopening at around 2am for Friday's rush hours.
The lanes are being operated by Transurban North America, and the extension, like the rest of the system, will have variable tolls. The goal is to keep traffic limited so that it can flow at 55 miles per hour or faster. The express lanes go all the way to Washington, D.C., and also exist on I-395 and I-495.
Transurban estimates someone travelling from Washington to Fredericksburg can save 30 minutes on a trip using the lanes.
