Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia State Police say there were two fatalities among the 65 accidents that occurred overnight in the Richmond Division. The two fatal accidents occurred on I-295 in Henrico County, and I-64 in Goochland County.
Sergeant Jessica Sheehan says she cannot confirm all the accidents were due to icy roads, but given there was ice out there, it is expected a large number of them were related to the conditions. At times this morning, bridges across the James River were closed because of icy, although not all necessarily at the same time.
Sheehan says in icy conditions, drivers need to slow down, increase stopping distance, and pay close attention to their surroundings.
